Chief of Police
Jeffery Kreitz was appointed to Police Chief of the Ridgefield Police Department in October 2018. He oversees a staff of 42 officers and 9 civilian employees. The Ridgefield Police Department is a P.O.S.T Council Tier III Accredited Department, serving a town of over 25,000 residents.
Chief Kreitz is a veteran of the Ridgefield Police Department, serving since 2003. A native Ridgefielder, he believes in partnerships and strategic crime fighting. Central to his vision is community engagement and outreach as well as the promotion of transparency and accountability. He is committed to employees and their well-being.
Chief Kreitz is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Justice and Law Administration. He rose through the ranks of RPD, commanding the Division of Professional Standards prior to his promotion.

The Detective Division Commander is Captain Jeffrey Smith. Captain Smith supervises four detectives, one of whom also serves as the Department's Youth Officer. Captain Smith started his career with Ridgefield in 1997. After 5 years in the detective division he was promoted to sergeant and then lieutenant. The Division of Professional Standards Commander is Captain Jeffrey Raines. Captain Raines started his career with Ridgefield in 2004. Captain Raines has been a member of the patrol division and was promoted to sergeant and then lieutenant during his tenure. Captain Raines oversees departmental training programs and serves as a liaison to the Connecticut Police Academy. The Division of Professional Standards also encompasses the department's Media (PIO), Community Policing, Public Relations, Accreditation Officer, and DARE programs.
